Testimonials
Little Chess Mates has been a wonderful experience for my six
year old son and has even eclipsed soccer as his new favourite extra
curricular activity. He has learned so much in the past couple of
months not only about the game itself but about visual-spatial patterns
and algebraic notation, all in an environment that he finds so fun
and engaging that he doesn't even realize he's learning. The summer
chess program at Little Chess Mates was being held at a location a
significant distance from our home but the time spent driving on Tuesday
afternoons has been well worth it. He loves the program and has told
me that he wishes his chess class was every day.

(Testimonial) David Ho -President
of Ajax Chess Club
We had a guest chess expert (Mario Adragna) come into our Ajax Chess
Club tonight from "Little Chess Mates". He was gracious
enough to
perform a chess Simul for us. A chess simul is where one person takes
on the whole floor playing each seperate player on their board one
after another. Mario was able to win all his matches rather easily
and then gave us pointers as to where we could improve.
Mario is also the supplier that our club has purchased our chess
boards. Not only did he deliver our 6 new tournament weighted chess
sets but he cleaned us all off of them. Oouch!
Thank you Mario for your interest and taking the time out of your
busy
schedule to see the development of our community chess club. I'm
sure
there will be future opportunities to invite Mario back for more
pointers.

Hi
Mario,
Just
wanted to send you a note to let you know my appreciation for your
Chess Club at COC.
As a parent of two girls, I realize the importance of
building decision-making skills, confidence, and a healthy dose of
competition in the world outside of our home, where they have no problem
voicing their opinion and taking on leadership position. I am a true
believer that Chess, when starting at a young age has far-reaching
consequences that will help them succeed in the `real` world.
My 4 yr old sets-up all the pieces in perfect order.
The first time witnessing this was both satisfying and entertaining.
My 6 yr old is already quick enough to beat me (sometimes) with chess
set-up. Jesse and Chloe enjoy the classes, and are all smiles when
we pick them up. My husband and I hear the stories of their learning
in class illustrated through clever games and amusing experiences.
At this age, the ability to see DIRECT consequences of their decision,
and developing patience with themselves and others, is no doubt assisting
them socially and academically.
Your passion for chess rubs off on them. And you have
always been available for discussion about my girls`progress. As a
parent, it is important to hear frequent feedback about their progress
that is highly personalized rather than generalized.
Thought that I was able to teach chess at home. I am
now convinced that teaching chess is not an easy task. I will leave
it up to you, the expert, to guide them step by step toward success.
Hoping that their interest in chess continues for years to come.
Sincerely,
Hannah - proud mom of two promising girls

Mr. Adragna is a member of the Chess Federation of Canada and
has taught chess to students at various schools at both the introductory
and intermediate skill levels. Mario is highly motivated to promote
chess and its development amongst children, both for its recreational
and educational benefits and strives to encourage chess playing for
competition within the game and the added obvious advantages it can
bring to the child and/or young person from an educational perspective.

Dear
Mario,
Sam
and I wanted to commend you for the excellent chess program that you
facilitate at the school. The program has been great for our boys.
During evenings we are often challenged to a competitive game of chess
from Liam 6 and Harrison 9. This is a welcomed challenge since it
means less time spent with the T.V and P.S.P. It is also fun to watch
the boys challenge each other and listen to some of their strategies
in the game.
We
feel that your class has provided our boys with a keen interest for
the game, helps in their ability to focus on their task at hand and
has given us some fun and educational time together at home
Having
the program at school is also very convenient for our schedule.
We
appreciate your efforts.

Hi
Mario,
Our daughter Madison began the chess program at the school a month
shy of her 4th birthday and we are amazed at how excited she gets
when she knows it is her chess night! She is really enjoying herself
and has learned so much in such a short period of time and has even
been able to teach us how to play the game! Nobody in our household
had ever played chess before and we are thrilled with the progress
she has made and would highly recommend this program to children of
all ages!
Thanks
so much!

Ryan
has always been attracted to games such as checkers and memory card
games. Although Ryan has been drawn towards technical games, he seldom
had the patience to complete them. Through Little Chess Mates, I have
seen a significant improvement in Ryan's patience as well as his planning
skills. Ryan has applied these skills in school as well as around
the home. I believe that playing chess is a very positive activity
as it allows for high levels of competiveness while instilling an
excellent level of sportsmanship.

For
any parents who have met Mario, you know how passionate he is about
chess. Just like any coach of any sports team he sees chess as a 'brain
gym'. His goal is to have students who wish to progress in chess to
have opportunities to play children of other schools and get a chance
to refine their skills. Not all children are suited for physical sports
and even if they are, the strategies learned in chess will only help
make your child a sharper competitor in individual and team events.
